Thuringian Minister-President Voigt files lawsuit against revocation of his doctoral degree
Thuringian Minister-President Mario Voigt is taking legal action against the decision of the Chemnitz University of Technology. The university had previously revoked his doctoral degree. With this lawsuit, Voigt aims to have this step reversed and his academic degree reinstated.
The background to the dispute is an examination of Voigt's dissertation. The University of Chemnitz concluded that the work did not meet the scientific standards required for a doctorate. For this reason, the university decided to officially revoke the title.
Mario Voigt rejects the university's allegations. He emphasizes that he acted correctly when writing his doctoral thesis. Through the lawsuit, he now wants a specialized administrative court to clarify whether the revocation of the title was lawful or whether the university must correct its decision.
The case is attracting attention in German politics, as it involves a high-ranking official. So far, there is no date set for a court hearing. It remains to be seen how the court will evaluate Voigt's arguments and the university's examination results.
