New ownership structure at TenneT Germany: KfW acquires stake in power grid operator

The Dutch power grid operator TenneT has completed a major change in the ownership structure of its German business. As the company announced, the transaction to reorganize the equity capital has been successfully concluded. The aim of this measure is to secure the long-term financing of the vital German power grid.

Several major investors are participating in the new structure. The companies APG, GIC, and NBIM are jointly investing up to 9.5 billion euros in equity into the company. These investments are an important step toward advancing the expansion of power grids in Germany, which is of central importance for the energy transition.

The German government is also playing a decisive role in this reorganization. The state-owned development bank KfW has acquired a 25.1 percent stake in TenneT Germany. Through this entry, the federal government is assuming direct responsibility for the infrastructure necessary for transporting electricity from renewable energy sources.

The involvement of KfW and international investors is intended to ensure stability. As Germany accelerates the transition to green energy sources such as wind and solar power, a high-performance power grid is indispensable. With this new financial foundation, TenneT is now better positioned to tackle the upcoming challenges in grid expansion.
