DWD warns of 38°C heat and severe storms across Germany today
Large parts of Germany remain under a heatwave on Tuesday, with the German Weather Service (DWD) issuing heat warnings across almost the entire country. Highs are expected to reach 30 to 38°C, and an "extreme heat" warning is in force for central and southern regions including Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Erfurt and Nuremberg.
At the same time, the DWD has issued level-two severe-weather warnings for parts of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt and Saxony, where thunderstorms may bring heavy rain, hail and strong wind gusts. By the evening, storm activity is forecast to shift westward toward the Black Forest. The Baltic coast around Kiel and Rügen stays cooler at 25 to 30°C.
Officials advise closing windows, shutters and blinds early in the day, drinking plenty of water and avoiding the sun during peak hours. Relief is on the way: forecasters expect the heat warnings to ease from Thursday, with highs falling to around 29 to 30°C by the weekend.
