Germany Focuses on Innovation: Billions for New Technologies and Start-ups
There are currently many plans in Germany to secure the technological future. Together with France, the federal government has agreed on a new plan for greater "sovereignty." The goal is to become less dependent on large US tech companies. Europe wants to join forces to better support domestic start-ups and remain competitive on the global market.
One particularly large project is the planned construction of the world's first commercial fusion power plant in Germany. The federal government intends to invest around 2.4 billion euros in this by 2029. There is also progress in infrastructure: Telefónica Germany is currently testing a new satellite technology. This technology is intended to close dead zones in the mobile network, ensuring that citizens in remote areas have a better connection.
There is also positive news in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Four German start-ups – Langdock, n8n, Parloa, and Synthflow – are currently growing particularly fast. Their business ideas are all based on modern AI technology. Correspondingly, the labor market in Berlin is showing a turnaround: after a long period with few jobs, the number of job openings in the tech sector in the capital has been rising again since the end of September.
Alongside new companies, established firms are also celebrating successes in Germany. For example, Samsung Electronics is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its research and development center in Stuttgart. At the same time, digitalization in the healthcare sector is becoming increasingly important. Companies like Zebra Technologies are working to improve workflows in clinics through networked digital systems, enabling medical staff to work more efficiently.
In summary, Germany is investing heavily in research and development. Whether in energy supply, communication technology, or medicine – the technological transformation is in full swing. Although challenges remain, the current investments and the growth of start-ups are an important signal for Germany as a business location.
