Maserati Plans Return to GT4 Racing from 2028
The Italian car manufacturer Maserati has big plans for the future of motorsport. Starting in 2028, the tradition-steeped brand wants to officially rejoin international GT4 racing. The company recently confirmed that a new racing car is being developed based on the current "GranTurismo" model.
The new racing car is being developed by the dedicated motorsport department "Maserati Corse." The technical basis for it is the Maserati GranTurismo, a sporty coupe normally built for road use. For use on the racetrack, however, the vehicle will be heavily modified to comply with the strict rules of the GT4 class. The main focus will be on aerodynamics and safety.
The GT4 class is particularly successful in Europe and Germany. In racing series such as "ADAC GT4 Germany," sporty cars compete against each other that are still very similar to their road-going models. For motorsport fans in Germany, Maserati's entry means more variety on domestic racetracks. Maserati will compete there against well-known German brands such as Porsche, BMW, and Mercedes.
Maserati has a very long history in racing but has focused more on luxury road cars in recent years. With the planned return in 2028, the brand aims to strengthen its sporty image worldwide once again. The decision to start in four years gives engineers enough time to build a competitive car intended to convince both professionals and ambitious amateur racing drivers.
Although there is still some time until the first official race, there is already great interest in the professional world. The return of such a well-known brand shows that GT racing remains very attractive for major manufacturers. Fans in Germany and around the world can look forward to seeing how the new GranTurismo will fare against the strong international competition.
