Major Changes in German Sports: Nagelsmann Departs and Neugebauer Triumphs
There are currently many important news stories from the world of sports in Germany. The biggest surprise is the resignation of national coach Julian Nagelsmann. At the same time, the best athletes of the year were honored at a major gala in Munich, generating positive headlines.
Following the early exit of the German national team at the World Cup, the German Football Association (DFB) and Julian Nagelsmann have ended their collaboration. After a profound analysis of the sporting situation, the decision was made to part ways. It is currently not yet known who will succeed Nagelsmann, but the search for a new coach for the national team begins immediately.
While there is a sense of crisis at the DFB, other German athletes celebrated great successes. At the "Sports Illustrated Germany Awards" in Munich, decathlete Leo Neugebauer was named "Sportsperson of the Year" 2025. Neugebauer had previously won the gold medal at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. Professional footballer Mats Hummels gave an impressive speech honoring the world champion, whom he described as the "King of Athletes." The German national basketball team also received an award for their strong performances.
There is also a lot of movement on the club football transfer market. Felix Nmecha of Borussia Dortmund is in the focus of top international clubs such as Manchester United, Liverpool, and Real Madrid. Additionally, BVB is interested in young talents like Kennet Eichhorn from Hertha BSC. These potential transfers show that German players and the Bundesliga remain in high demand internationally.
Away from sports, there is news for fans of video games and technology. Preparations for the "Games Germany Steam Sale 2026" are already underway, and the "Games Gathering Germany" event will take place in Wiesbaden in February. In summary, it is clear that Germany has an eventful year ahead in both traditional sports and digital entertainment.
