Germany prepares for extreme heatwave
Germany is currently experiencing an extraordinary heatwave. In the coming days, meteorologists expect temperatures of up to 40 degrees Celsius in many regions of the country. These extreme values pose a challenge to public life and infrastructure.
Elderly people, children, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions are particularly at risk from this heat. Experts advise staying in cool indoor spaces during the midday hours as much as possible and avoiding physical exertion outdoors. Adequate fluid intake is also vital under these conditions.
Authorities and healthcare facilities are on high alert to be able to react quickly to potential emergencies. Measures are also being taken in cities to mitigate the effects of the heat, for example by providing drinking water or opening air-conditioned public buildings.
It remains to be seen how long the heatwave will last. The public is asked to regularly follow the latest weather warnings from the German Weather Service and to look out for one another in order to prevent health issues.
