New ownership structure at TenneT Germany: KfW acquires stake in power grid operator

The Dutch power grid operator TenneT has implemented a fundamental change to its ownership structure in Germany. As the company announced, key transactions have been completed to secure the long-term financing of the energy transition. Both international investors and the state-owned German development bank KfW are involved in this process.

KfW has officially acquired a 25.1 percent stake in TenneT's German subsidiary. With this step, the German government is strengthening its direct influence on the critical infrastructure of the power grid. The investment is considered an important building block for advancing the expansion of power lines, which are necessary for transporting wind energy from the north to the south of Germany.

In addition to KfW, international partners such as APG, GIC, and NBIM are also investing a significant sum in the company. In total, up to 9.5 billion euros in equity will flow into TenneT's German division. This capital injection is intended to ensure that the necessary investments in the German power grid can be financed despite the high costs of grid expansion.

The reorganization of the ownership structure is a response to the challenges of the energy transition. As Germany massively increases the share of renewable energies, the power grid must be modernized and expanded. Through the involvement of KfW and the new investors, TenneT receives the necessary financial stability to implement these complex projects in the coming years.
