More Gender Equality in Music: “Gender Equality Now” Conference in Berlin
On May 21, an important event for the German music industry took place in Berlin. The organization “Music Women* Germany” hosted the “Gender Equality Now” conference. Experts met at the Silent Green cultural quarter to discuss the role of women and non-binary people in the music world.
The aim of the conference was to draw attention to existing gender disparities. In the music industry, women are often underrepresented, especially in leadership positions or on large festival stages. Participants demanded that this situation must change quickly so that the industry becomes fairer and more diverse.
During the event, there were various discussions and presentations. There was talk about how to break down barriers that make it difficult for women to succeed in the industry. A central theme was visibility: female artists should receive more support to successfully shape their careers. Fair pay and better working conditions were also important points on the agenda.
The conference in Berlin shows that the topic of equality is becoming increasingly important in Germany. Many participants hope that the demands of “Music Women* Germany” will now also have concrete political and economic consequences. Only through joint efforts can a modern and just music landscape emerge.
