German service sector shows first signs of recovery
The economic situation in the German service sector improved slightly in July 2026. As current data from S&P Global shows, the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for services rose to 49.6 points. In the previous month, this figure stood at 48.6 points.
This increase marks the highest level in four months and exceeded the initial expectations of experts. Although the figure remains below the critical threshold of 50 points—which indicates continued contraction—the sector is slowly approaching the growth zone again.
The Purchasing Managers' Index is an important indicator of a country's economic health. It is based on surveys of companies regarding their current business situation and their expectations for the coming months. A value below 50 signals that economic activity has decreased compared to the previous month.
The development in July suggests that the decline in the German service sector is losing momentum. Whether this trend will continue in the coming months and the index will be able to rise above the 50-point mark again remains to be seen. Analysts are now closely monitoring upcoming reports to better assess further economic development in Germany.
