Current News from Germany: Great Successes in Sports and News from the Gaming World
There is currently a lot of exciting news from the world of sports in Germany. Decathlete Leo Neugebauer was particularly celebrated. He received the title “Sportsperson of the Year 2025” at the first Sports Illustrated Germany Award. The German national basketball team was also honored for its achievements. Football star Mats Hummels gave an impressive speech and praised Neugebauer as an athlete who will shape the sport over the next ten years.
However, there are also critical voices in football. Former national player Toni Kroos expressed concern about the German national team. He fears that the team could be eliminated early at the next World Cup if certain conditions do not improve. At the same time, there is a lot of interest in young talents: Felix Nmecha from Borussia Dortmund is in the focus of major international clubs such as Manchester United, Liverpool, and Real Madrid.
A lot is also happening in the German sports landscape outside of professional football. A new club called “Germany Athletics” was founded in Franconia to promote athletics in the region. The sport is currently struggling with a lack of young talent and a shortage of funds. There is also news in motorsport: a racing team from Sinsheim is preparing for its debut in the “Prototype Cup Europe” after the team has already won titles in other series.
There are also important dates in Germany for fans of video games. The application phase for the “Games Germany Steam Sale 2026” is ending soon. Developers and studios can still register until the end of March to present their games on the platform. In addition, the networking event “Games Gathering Germany” will take place in February. There, experts from the industry have the opportunity to exchange ideas and test new games.
These developments show how diverse the German sports and media landscape currently is. While individual athletes like Leo Neugebauer celebrate great international success, German football is looking for new ways back to the top. At the same time, the importance of the digital games industry in Germany continues to grow, offering new opportunities for developers.
