Heat Record in Germany: Will it be hotter today than ever before in June?
Germany is currently experiencing extreme heat. Many people are wondering whether we will see a new temperature record for the month of June this year. Meteorologists are monitoring the weather situation across the country very closely, as temperatures are rising sharply in some regions.
The previous record for a day in June is 39.6 degrees Celsius. This historical value was measured on June 30, 2019, in Bernburg, Saxony-Anhalt. Since that day, no higher temperature has been officially recorded in Germany during the first month of summer.
Experts expect particularly high values today in the east and south of Germany. It is possible that the thermometer will reach or even exceed the 40-degree mark in some places. This means that the old record from 2019 could indeed be broken today.
However, the intense heat also brings health risks. Doctors advise the population to drink enough water and avoid direct sunlight during the midday hours. Especially older people, children, and individuals with pre-existing conditions should be careful and stay in cool rooms.
In addition to the heat, weather services are warning of an increased risk of forest fires in dry areas. It is recommended to be particularly careful in forests and not to light any open fires. The dryness of recent weeks further intensifies this risk.
Whether the record will actually fall today will only be clear late in the evening when all weather stations have reported their data. What is clear, however, is that such extreme heatwaves have been occurring more and more frequently in Germany in recent years, presenting people with new challenges.
