AfD's 100-day plan: "A head-on collision is inevitable"

The AfD has unveiled a sweeping 100-day plan for Saxony-Anhalt, promising rapid policy changes if it wins the state election, but experts warn many proposals could face serious legal and financial obstacles.

The plan was presented in Magdeburg, the state capital, by AfD's lead candidate Ulrich Siegmund ahead of the September state election. The party says it wants to implement ten major measures immediately after taking office, arguing that voters are demanding significant political change. Current opinion polls place the AfD among the strongest parties in the state.

Among the party's key proposals are increasing deportations by expanding detention facilities for migrants awaiting removal, introducing compulsory work requirements for asylum seekers, reducing funding for democracy-promotion programs and party-affiliated foundations, and offering financial support for apprentices to obtain driving licenses. The AfD also wants separate school classes for children of asylum seekers in some cases, security personnel at schools with recurring problems, and a parliamentary inquiry into the state's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The party further proposes terminating State Broadcasting Treaties, replacing the state's #moderndenken ("modern thinking") campaign with #deutschdenken ("thinking German"), flying the German national flag daily at schools while banning rainbow flags, and reducing the number of state ministries to cut government costs.

Political analysts and legal experts caution that several proposals would be difficult to implement. Some measures could conflict with constitutional protections, while others would require cooperation beyond the state government or involve lengthy legal procedures. Critics also question how the AfD would finance expensive campaign promises while simultaneously proposing tax reductions and budget cuts, raising doubts about whether the ambitious 100-day agenda could be fully delivered.
