The Left 21, CDU 20: Poll 10 Days Before Berlin Election

Ten days before the election for the Berlin House of Representatives, The Left party is ahead of the CDU for the first time in a new poll. According to the survey conducted by Infratest dimap for ARD-DeutschlandTrend, The Left is at 21 percent, while the CDU is at 20 percent. They are followed by the AfD with 18 percent and the Greens with 16 percent. The SPD is trailing in fifth place with 12 percent. The BSW and FDP remain below five percent and would miss the threshold to enter the House of Representatives.

The Left's lead is narrow, but the trend is clear. Compared to the previous survey, The Left has gained two percentage points, while the CDU has lost one. In the two previously published polls, the CDU was still in the lead. This marks the first time in this election campaign that The Left has stood at the top of all parties.

A gap of one percentage point is within the usual margin of error. Therefore, the poll does not predict a result, but rather describes an open race between two parties with very different visions for rent policy, internal security, and the administration of the city. For the SPD, which has governed Berlin for decades, a historically weak result is emerging.

The election will take place on September 20. Eligible voters are German citizens registered in Berlin. Election notifications should have been delivered by now. If you have not received one, contact your local district election office; you can still vote with an ID card without the notification, but you should check your polling station in advance. Documents for postal voting can still be requested. Send them back early enough to ensure they arrive by election day.
