New ownership structure at TenneT Germany: KfW acquires stake in power grid operator
The Dutch power grid operator TenneT has completed a major change in its ownership structure for its German division. As the company announced, the planned equity transactions have been successfully concluded. This process involves both international investors and the state-owned German development bank, KfW.
KfW has officially acquired a 25.1 percent stake in TenneT Germany. With this step, the German government is securing direct influence over one of the country's most important transmission system operators. The investment is considered strategically important for advancing the energy transition in Germany and ensuring the long-term stability of the power supply.
In addition to KfW, international partners such as APG, GIC, and NBIM are also investing in the company. A total of up to 9.5 billion euros in equity is flowing into TenneT's German division. These significant investments are necessary to finance the expansion of the power grids, which are urgently needed to transport wind and solar energy across Germany.
The completion of this transaction marks a significant milestone for Germany's energy infrastructure. With the new ownership structure, TenneT Germany is now on a broader financial footing. This is intended to help achieve the German government's ambitious climate goals and make the power grid fit for the future.
