Heat-related deaths: Experts warn & wellness prices are rising
The number of heat-related deaths in Germany could be significantly higher than previously assumed, while the costs for wellness stays in popular health resorts are rising for travelers. In addition, there are new developments regarding healthcare for the elderly and in professional sports.
Intensive care physicians are criticizing the current estimates from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), which most recently assumed 12,500 heat-related deaths. Experts such as Uwe Janssens, medical director of the DIVI (German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine), consider this figure to be set too low. This underscores the growing health burden caused by extreme summer temperatures in Germany.
For the younger generation, a challenge for the future is also emerging: a current study indicates that people of retirement age will have to expect poorer health in the future. This forecast is significant for the long-term life planning and retirement planning of those currently in the workforce.
Anyone planning a wellness vacation in Germany must expect high costs. A current comparison shows that health resorts such as Norderney (951 euros for a weekend), List on Sylt (917 euros), and Oberstdorf (891 euros) are particularly expensive. Travelers should take these price differences into account when planning their vacation.
In the world of sports, there is movement regarding transfer modalities: 1. FC Köln has reached an agreement with FC Bologna on a loan for striker Thijs Dallinga, which includes an option to buy for 11 million euros. Werder Bremen is also on the verge of bringing back player Eren Dinkçi via a one-year loan from Freiburg.
