Rheinmetall starts production of unmanned combat boats in Hamburg
The German defense group Rheinmetall is expanding its portfolio and is now beginning the production of unmanned combat boats. Manufacturing is taking place directly at the Port of Hamburg, a key location for the maritime industry in Germany.
The new boats are operated without a crew and are designed for various military tasks. Through the use of modern technology, these vehicles can operate autonomously or via remote control, which is intended to significantly reduce the risk to soldiers during dangerous missions on the water.
With this step, the Düsseldorf-based company is strengthening its position in the field of maritime defense technology. The Hamburg location offers logistical advantages, as the proximity to the water allows for the testing and delivery of the new systems directly on-site.
The development of unmanned systems is gaining global importance in the modern defense industry. Rheinmetall is thus responding to the increasing demand for automated solutions that can be used for both surveillance and the security of coastal regions.
Although the project is still in its initial phase, it demonstrates the technological shift within the German defense industry. Over the coming months, it will become clear how these new combat boats will be integrated into existing defense strategies.
