Saxony's Minister President Kretschmer calls for a "Pact for Germany"
Michael Kretschmer, the Minister President of Saxony, is calling for new and far-reaching political measures for the Federal Republic. Following the federal government's current reform package, he believes that what has been achieved so far is not enough. The CDU politician is therefore proposing a so-called "Pact for Germany" to solve the country's pressing problems more quickly and effectively.
The federal government recently presented a package of various reforms. These primarily concern important issues such as migration policy and economic development. While Kretschmer fundamentally welcomes these steps, he considers them insufficient. He is of the opinion that Germany needs significantly closer cooperation between the federal government and the individual states to bring about real change.
With his proposal for a "Pact for Germany," Kretschmer wants to achieve a cross-party agreement. The goal is to find long-term solutions to the current crises that go beyond daily party politics. He sees an urgent need for action, particularly in refugee policy. He calls for clear rules that are supported jointly by all political levels in order to demonstrate the state's ability to act.
The demands from Saxony show that the political debate over the right course for Germany remains very intense. Whether the federal government in Berlin will respond to Kretschmer's proposal is currently unclear. What is certain, however, is that the discussion about necessary reforms and the future of the country will remain a central topic in German politics in the coming weeks.
