Teenagers in custody after brutal attack on sisters
Three teenage girls have been placed in pre-trial detention after allegedly carrying out a brutal attack on two sisters in the German city of Heidelberg, leaving one of the victims with life-changing injuries.
According to investigators, the incident took place on the evening of July 11. The three suspects, aged 14, 16 and 17, are accused of attacking an 18-year-old woman with a knife and broken glass. She reportedly suffered multiple stab wounds, deep cuts to her face, and a traumatic brain injury after being beaten unconscious during the assault.
The victim's 15-year-old sister was also injured when she tried to protect her sibling. Prosecutors say she was attacked with a knife and broken glass, suffering facial injuries while attempting to intervene. Authorities further allege that the suspects mocked the sisters as they lay injured on the ground following the violent assault.
The Amtsgericht Heidelberg (Heidelberg District Court) has issued arrest warrants for all three girls. They are being held in pre-trial detention on suspicion of jointly committing dangerous bodily harm and causing serious bodily injury. Due to the suspects' ages, the investigation is being handled under Germany's juvenile justice system.
Police have not yet disclosed what triggered the attack, and the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the violent incident while gathering additional evidence to determine exactly what led to the confrontation.
