Digitization in Hospitals: New Technology Aims to Improve Workflows
In many German hospitals, digitization has now become part of everyday life. Doctors and nursing staff use computers and tablets for their daily work. However, a major problem remains: the various digital systems are often not well networked with each other. This frequently leads to delays and unnecessary stress in everyday clinical life.
When data does not flow automatically from one department to the next, so-called “waiting loops” occur. This means that employees have to wait for important information or enter data multiple times into different programs. This inefficiency costs valuable time that should actually be used for patient care. Experts criticize that pure digitization without genuine networking is not enough.
The company Zebra Technologies Germany GmbH is addressing exactly this point. The goal is to optimize workflows in clinics through so-called “orchestrated workflows.” This involves organizing all digital processes so that they work together perfectly like an orchestra. Information should automatically arrive exactly where it is needed, without the staff having to intervene manually.
For the staff in the clinics, this development represents a significant relief. When the technology in the background works smoothly, the error rate drops and stress decreases. In addition, doctors and nurses have more time for their actual medical work with people. This is also a major advantage for patients, as treatments can be coordinated more quickly.
The modernization of German hospitals is an important step for the future of the healthcare system. However, it is not enough to simply purchase new devices. The real challenge lies in the intelligent networking of existing systems. Only in this way can digitization reach its full potential and sustainably improve everyday life in clinics.
