Objections at the Jobcenter: Why AI-generated texts can harm your case
In the first half of 2026, Hamburg's job centers recorded about 30 percent more objections to their notices than in the same period the previous year. According to the headquarters of the Hamburg job centers, they cannot evaluate whether the use of artificial intelligence is behind this. Other agencies have been more explicit.
The chair of the Federal Employment Agency recently reported an increase in objection proceedings and established a link to AI: the letters are sometimes several pages long, thereby causing additional administrative burden. Job centers in Schleswig-Holstein are also reporting more objections. At the eight social courts in North Rhine-Westphalia, the number of urgent proceedings rose by more than 55 percent to 7,615 in 2025 – primarily affecting cases related to citizen's benefit (Bürgergeld) and unemployment insurance.
The president of the North Rhine-Westphalia State Social Court also attributes this to the fact that plaintiffs without legal representation are creating their briefs using AI. These letters are often very long, contain many irrelevant requests, and sometimes refer to court decisions that do not even exist. This is precisely the point that harms the individuals themselves: a fabricated case reference number does not make an objection stronger, but rather untrustworthy – and it consumes processing time that ultimately comes at the expense of one's own case. The court also cites the fact that fewer and fewer lawyers are specializing in the comparatively low-remunerated field of social law as a reason for this development.
The objection itself remains your right, and you should exercise it. After receiving a notice from the job center, you have one month to file an objection and provide justification. It is effective if it is brief and concrete: which figure or which decision in the notice do you believe is incorrect, and why? Attach supporting documents – rental agreement, bank statements, pay slips, medical certificates. If you use an AI tool for drafting, check every legal provision and every cited judgment before you sign, and delete anything you cannot verify yourself. Free support is offered by social associations, unemployment counseling centers, and consumer advice centers.
