Curious incident: ICE makes unscheduled stop for toilet paper
A Deutsche Bahn ICE train made headlines on Tuesday after it had to make an unplanned stop. The reason for the halt in Hamburg-Bergedorf was an unusual problem: the train had run out of toilet paper in the carriages.
To ensure the needs of the passengers were met, the train manager made a quick decision. He had the train stop briefly and sent a staff member to a nearby supermarket to purchase a new supply. The passengers had to wait briefly for the journey to continue due to this unusual errand.
Deutsche Bahn confirmed the incident upon request. Such situations are extremely rare in everyday rail operations, as trains are normally thoroughly cleaned and stocked with necessary hygiene supplies at maintenance depots before departure. Why the supply was insufficient in this specific case is currently being investigated internally.
The unplanned stop in Hamburg-Bergedorf led to a slight delay for the train. Nevertheless, many passengers remained relaxed given the curious circumstances. The ICE was able to continue its journey without further issues after the quick shopping trip.
