Masked and armed: Unknown attacker robs a bank branch
A masked and armed man carried out a robbery at a bank branch in Wels, Upper Austria, on March 4, 2026. The incident occurred at around 10:45 a.m., shocking employees and customers in the area.
According to police, the suspect entered the branch dressed entirely in black and wearing a black balaclava. He was armed with a carpet knife and immediately demanded money from the staff.
Three bank employees were present at the time of the robbery. They told investigators that the man threatened them and insisted on receiving cash, creating a tense and dangerous situation inside the bank.
However, the branch operates as a cashless location, making it impossible for employees to hand over any money. Instead, one employee gave the suspect his personal wallet, after which the man fled the scene.
An immediate search operation was launched by police, but the perpetrator has not yet been found. Authorities are continuing their investigation and are asking anyone with information about the robbery to come forward.
