New rules for wind and photovoltaic parks in Western Greece
Significant changes are coming to the planning for the installation of green energy projects in Western Greece. The competent authorities are proceeding with the creation of a new map, which will clearly define the areas where the placement of wind and photovoltaic parks is permitted or prohibited.
This new map is an essential tool for balancing energy development with environmental protection. According to the guidelines, the evaluation of the areas will be based on strict criteria concerning the geography and ecological significance of each location.
When reviewing applications for new projects, critical factors will be taken into account, such as altitude, proximity to protected Natura network areas, and Special Protection Zones (SPZs). Furthermore, the impact of the projects on forests, archaeological sites, tourist zones, and nearby settlements will be examined.
Particular attention will also be paid to the protection of coasts and water sources, ensuring that renewable energy infrastructure will not cause damage to the region's natural resources. The goal is to avoid conflicts with other economic activities, such as tourism and agriculture.
This initiative is expected to offer greater transparency to investors and reassure local communities. By establishing specific rules, Western Greece aims to move forward with the green transition while respecting its cultural heritage and natural landscape.
