Unusual incidents in Messolonghi: Two women attacked by marine species
Two women were taken to the hospital in Messolonghi following incidents that occurred in the sea. The bathers were bitten by marine species, causing concern among residents and visitors in the area.
One of the two women reported that she was bitten by a fish while swimming. According to her assessment, the fish that attacked her was likely a pufferfish. However, the species of the fish has not been officially confirmed by the competent authorities so far.
In the second incident, another woman was injured by a sea turtle. The injuries of both women were treated immediately by the hospital's medical staff, where they were provided with first aid.
Local authorities are monitoring the situation and advise bathers to be particularly careful when entering the water. Although such incidents are not common, the presence of invasive species, such as the pufferfish, in Greek waters is an issue that has frequently concerned experts in recent years.
For the time being, no other similar incidents have been reported in the area. Authorities are calling on citizens to immediately inform the Port Authority if they spot any unusual marine species or if they encounter a similar attack.
