Concern over the outbreak of West Nile virus in Greece

The National Public Health Organization (EODY) is on alert due to the significant increase in West Nile virus cases in our country. The latest data indicate that the situation requires attention, as the number of patients has been constantly rising over the last few days.

According to the organization's latest update, 45 new cases were recorded in just one week. In total, the number of people who have been infected with the virus since the beginning of the season has reached 110. Unfortunately, this outbreak has also caused loss of life, with the number of deaths reaching nine.

The West Nile virus is transmitted primarily through the bite of infected mosquitoes. Experts emphasize that citizens must take strict protective measures, such as using insect repellent, installing screens on windows, and avoiding staying in areas with stagnant water, where mosquitoes breed.

Health authorities continue to monitor the situation and are carrying out spraying in various areas to limit the mosquito population. At the same time, citizens are advised to contact a doctor immediately if they develop symptoms such as high fever, headache, or rashes, so that they can receive appropriate medical care.
