Greece: Significant investments for the modernization of air navigation
The Greek government recently announced a new plan to upgrade the country's air navigation infrastructure. The Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Dimas, emphasized the importance of these investments for the safety and efficiency of flights within Greek airspace.
The centerpiece of this effort is the implementation of the Performance Based Navigation (PBN) system. This is a modern technology that uses satellite signals instead of traditional ground-based means. In this way, aircraft can fly with greater precision, following specific and safer routes.
The use of the PBN system offers several advantages. First, it increases the level of safety, as pilots have better guidance during the flight. Second, it allows aircraft to follow shorter paths. This leads to lower fuel consumption and, consequently, a significant reduction in environmental emissions.
Furthermore, the modernization of infrastructure will help reduce delays at the country's major airports. Better air traffic management is essential, especially during the summer months when tourist traffic in Greece is particularly high and the need for precision is greater.
The signing of the relevant contract is expected to take place soon, marking the beginning of a new era for Greek air transport. The government aims to make Greece a modern and safe transport hub in the wider Mediterranean region, strengthening its role on the international map.
In conclusion, investments in air navigation technology are vital for the economy and tourism. By adopting innovative solutions, Greece is adapting to international standards and offering better, faster, and "greener" services to travelers from all over the world.
