Greece ranks first in Europe for available mammography machines
According to recent Eurostat data, Greece holds the top position in the European Union regarding the availability of mammography units. Our country has 7.6 machines per 100,000 inhabitants, surpassing the other member states of Europe.
The existence of this equipment is particularly important for public health. Mammography is the primary tool for the early diagnosis of breast cancer, allowing doctors to identify problems at an initial stage, when the chances of recovery are much higher.
Despite the large number of machines, experts point out that the existence of infrastructure is not enough on its own. The exact percentage of women in Greece who actually undergo preventative screening remains unknown, as access to health services depends on many factors, such as awareness and geographical location.
Prevention remains the most powerful weapon against diseases. Health authorities emphasize the importance of regular check-ups for all women, as early diagnosis can save lives and significantly improve the quality of health of the population.
