Political tension in New Democracy: Adonis Georgiadis' statements on Antonis Samaras
The relationship between former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and the New Democracy government is at the center of current political affairs. Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis made statements commenting on the recent criticism Mr. Samaras leveled at the government's work.
Mr. Georgiadis argued that Antonis Samaras' views bear similarities to those of the opposition. Specifically, the minister stated that if one were to remove the sound from the former prime minister's statements, his arguments resemble the positions of Zoe Konstantopoulou, criticizing issues such as transparency and direct contract awards.
At the same time, Adonis Georgiadis also referred to Alexis Tsipras, emphasizing that he does not observe any substantial change or "rebranding" in the attitude of the former SYRIZA president. According to the minister, Mr. Tsipras continues to support the same positions he expressed during the 2015 period.
Regarding the future of Antonis Samaras within the party, Mr. Georgiadis stated that the decision as to whether the former prime minister wishes to remain in New Democracy or follow a different path is entirely his own choice.
These statements come at a time of intense discussion within the ruling party. The country's political scene is watching the developments with interest, as the distances between New Democracy officials seem to be a major focus of public debate.
