The impressive August Full Moon illuminated the Greek sky
Our country welcomed the first Full Moon of August, offering a unique spectacle to those who looked up at the night sky. The phenomenon, known internationally as the "Sturgeon Moon," was particularly bright and visible from every corner of Greece.
The name "Sturgeon Moon" comes from the tradition of Native Americans, who associated the appearance of this particular full moon with the time when fishermen caught large quantities of sturgeon in the lakes. Despite the foreign origin of the name, the phenomenon is a point of reference for the Greek public every year.
Throughout the night, the moon illuminated archaeological sites, beaches, and cities, creating an atmosphere that many described as magical. The photos and videos taken from various regions of the country quickly went viral on social media, gathering thousands of comments from admirers of the celestial phenomenon.
The August Full Moon is traditionally considered the most popular of the summer for Greeks, as it coincides with vacations and events held throughout the territory. This year's moon once again managed to capture the public's interest, reminding us of the beauty of nature.
