New desalination plant in Amorgos to meet water needs
An important piece of infrastructure for Amorgos was inaugurated on Sunday, July 19. It is a new desalination plant located in the Katapola area, which is expected to significantly improve the quality of life for the island's residents and visitors.
The inauguration of the facility was conducted by the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilias. This project represents an essential intervention to address the water scarcity problem that the Cycladic islands frequently face during the summer months.
The new unit has the capacity to produce 1,050 cubic meters of drinking water on a daily basis. With the addition of this volume to the water supply network, the island will be able to cover increased water needs more adequately, especially during the peak tourist season.
The operation of the desalination plant in Katapola is a critical step in strengthening the island's autonomy regarding water resources. Local authorities estimate that this investment will provide a permanent solution to the region's water supply issue, ensuring a stable water supply for citizens.
