Concern over the outbreak of West Nile virus in Greece
Health authorities in Greece have been alerted due to a significant increase in West Nile virus cases. According to the latest data, the country has recorded 157 confirmed incidents, a fact that is causing concern among experts regarding the spread of the disease during this year's season.
Unfortunately, the situation has led to 15 deaths of patients who had been infected with the virus. Scientists point out that the epidemiological picture strongly resembles previous years with high morbidity rates, underscoring the need for caution and the adoption of preventive measures by citizens.
The West Nile virus is transmitted primarily through the bite of infected mosquitoes. Experts emphasize that residents should use insect repellent, wear appropriate clothing that covers the body, and avoid areas with stagnant water, where mosquitoes breed more easily.
At the same time, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention is closely monitoring the development of the situation throughout the territory. Authorities urge citizens not to panic, but to be particularly careful, especially vulnerable groups and the elderly, who are at higher risk of serious complications.
Public information remains the primary tool for limiting the spread of the virus. Citizens are advised to contact their doctor immediately if they develop symptoms such as high fever, headache, or skin rashes, in order to receive the necessary medical care.
