European Commission considers new annual tax for tech giants
The European Commission is considering the possibility of imposing a new annual tax that would apply to the world's largest technology companies, the so-called "Big Tech." The goal of the proposal is to strengthen oversight and the financial contribution of these companies to European funds.
According to the proposal, called CORE, these companies would be required to pay a fixed annual contribution. The amount of the contribution is expected to range between 100,000 and 750,000 euros, depending on the size and activity of each business in the European market.
This initiative comes at a time when the European Union is trying to regulate the digital sector more strictly. Authorities seek to ensure that large platforms operate on fair terms and that they bear the costs arising from the Union's regulatory requirements.
The discussion on the matter is still at an early stage and is expected to be a major focus for European institutions in the coming period. Final decisions will determine the operating framework for tech giants in Europe, directly affecting the Greek market as well, where the services of these companies are particularly widespread.
