Strict rules for electric scooters in Greece: What riders need to watch out for
New guidelines and stricter rules are now in effect for electric scooter users in Greece, aiming to enhance road safety in cities. Authorities are placing particular emphasis on the necessary equipment that these micromobility vehicles must carry when operating on the road network.
According to recent regulations, every electric scooter is required to have specific safety features. More specifically, riders must have a white or yellow light at the front and a red light along with a reflector at the rear. Furthermore, it is mandatory to have reflectors installed on both sides of the scooter so that the vehicle is visible from all directions during the night.
Non-compliance with the above specifications can lead to serious penalties for owners. Riders who do not follow the rules regarding lighting and the safety of their equipment risk being fined, with penalties reaching up to 350 euros.
Authorities are calling on citizens to be properly informed about their obligations before taking to the streets. Proper maintenance of the scooter and the use of appropriate equipment are not only a legal obligation but are also crucial for avoiding accidents and protecting the lives of both users and pedestrians.
