Greece on alert for West Nile virus
Health authorities in Greece are on high alert as the West Nile virus continues to spread across several European countries. According to recent data, the virus has been detected so far in nine European states, causing concern among experts.
Greece currently records the second-highest number of cases in Europe. The situation is being closely monitored by the National Public Health Organization (EODY), which regularly issues guidelines for protecting citizens from mosquitoes, which are the primary vectors of the virus.
Experts point out that the increase in incidents is due to various factors, such as climatic conditions that favor mosquito breeding. Citizens are urged to take self-protection measures, such as using insect repellents and avoiding stagnant water in yards and on balconies.
Despite the concern, authorities emphasize that most people who contract the virus do not show symptoms or exhibit only mild symptoms. However, the elderly and individuals with chronic health problems should be particularly careful and seek medical help if they develop a fever or other concerning symptoms.
Public information remains the key tool for limiting the spread of the virus. Health services are continuing their actions to combat mosquitoes and monitor the situation throughout the territory in order to protect public health.
