Diplomatic communication between Greece and Iran regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz
The Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs, George Gerapetritis, recently held a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart, Seyed Abbas Araghchi. The discussion focused on developments in the Gulf region and, in particular, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, which directly affects international shipping.
During their conversation, the two ministers exchanged views on the critical situation prevailing in the region. The safety of navigation is an issue of paramount importance for Greece, as the Greek-owned merchant fleet plays a leading role in global maritime trade.
In this context, both sides agreed to maintain regular contact at a technical level. The goal of this cooperation is continuous updates and the exchange of information, in order to ensure the protection of Greek interests and the safe passage of vessels through the Strait.
This communication underscores the effort of Greek diplomacy to keep open channels of communication with all involved parties in regions of strategic importance for the global economy and Greek shipping.
