Green light for "plug and play" photovoltaics in Greece
A new era in clean energy production is beginning for Greek households, as the Ministry of Environment and Energy (YPEN) moves forward with significant changes. The Ministry has placed the framework for the installation of so-called "plug and play" photovoltaic systems under public consultation, making solar energy more accessible than ever.
These systems are small photovoltaic panels that can be easily placed on balconies or rooftops. Their main feature is that they connect directly to a home wall outlet, without requiring complex technical work or special permits from an electrician, making them ideal for renters and apartment owners.
The goal of this initiative is to help consumers reduce their electricity costs. By producing their own energy, households will be able to cover part of their daily needs while simultaneously reducing their environmental footprint.
The public consultation is the first step in defining safety rules and technical specifications. Interested citizens and organizations now have the opportunity to submit their proposals so that the final legislative framework is functional and safe for everyone.
Although the process is still in its initial stage, this move is considered a significant step toward the energy autonomy of Greek citizens. It is expected that the adoption of these systems will strengthen the use of renewable energy sources in urban environments over the coming years.
