Michalis Sallas' intervention regarding the "Achilles' Shield" program
Michalis Sallas made an important intervention regarding the "Achilles' Shield" defense program, emphasizing the importance of national strategy. According to him, investments in defense should not be considered preparation for war, but a necessary means for prevention and the maintenance of peace.
In his statement, Mr. Sallas argued that "Achilles' Shield" cannot function effectively on its own. Instead, he believes that this program must be accompanied by a comprehensive economic plan, which he named the "Athena Plan," in order to ensure the country's stability.
The central argument of the intervention is that strengthening the armed forces without simultaneously shielding the economy creates risks. As he characteristically noted, the purchase of weapons systems cannot replace the need for a strong and healthy economy, which constitutes the foundation for every national effort.
In conclusion, Mr. Sallas points out that national security requires a balanced approach. Strategic deterrence, through "Achilles' Shield," must go hand in hand with economic development so that Greece remains shielded against every challenge.
