Significant investment by French firm Meridiam for the Greece-Cyprus electrical interconnection
The French infrastructure investment firm, Meridiam, has reached a significant agreement to acquire a majority stake in the company responsible for the electrical interconnection project between Greece and Cyprus. This is one of the most ambitious energy projects in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
This project, known as the "Great Sea Interconnector," aims to link the electrical grids of the two countries. Through this interconnection, Cyprus will cease to be an "energy island," while Greece will strengthen its role as a hub for the transport of clean energy to Europe.
Despite the formalization of the agreement, the details regarding the terms of the partnership remain unclear for the time being. Investors and relevant stakeholders are expected to provide more information in the coming period, as the project enters a critical implementation phase.
The participation of a strong international player like Meridiam is considered a positive step toward securing the financing and technical integrity of the project. The completion of the electrical interconnection is expected to contribute significantly to reducing energy costs and strengthening the security of energy supply for consumers.
