STAMA: Restrictions on short-term rentals do not solve the housing problem
The Short-Term Rental Association (STAMA Greece) recently expressed its strong opposition to the imposition of strict restrictions on the sector. According to the association, measures that limit short-term rental activity are not the solution to the shortage of housing in the Greek market.
In its announcement, STAMA argues that these restrictions do not lead to an increase in the availability of homes for long-term rent. At the same time, it emphasizes that the measures are not expected to bring about a reduction in rents, which is one of the main demands of citizens and market stakeholders.
The debate over the housing problem in Greece remains particularly intense, as many owners are turning to short-term rentals, such as Airbnb, to increase their income. On the other hand, tenants are finding it increasingly difficult to find affordable housing in large cities, such as Athens and Thessaloniki.
The association points out that the solution to the housing issue requires a more comprehensive approach. It proposes dialogue between the involved parties and the search for measures that will increase housing supply without harming a sector that contributes significantly to the Greek economy and tourism.
In conclusion, the dispute over the future of short-term rentals continues. The government is called upon to balance the needs of citizens for affordable housing with the maintenance of tourism development, seeking solutions that will be fair to all sides.
