Significant reduction of public debt in Greece
The Greek economy has shown a remarkable path of improvement in recent years, despite international challenges in the bond markets. Official data show that the country is managing to reduce its public debt at a steady pace, strengthening investor confidence.
More specifically, public debt, which in 2022 stood at 177.8% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), has seen a significant decline. In 2024, this percentage fell to 154.2%, demonstrating the efforts made toward the country's fiscal consolidation.
Projections for the current year are also optimistic, as debt is estimated to fall further to 136.8% of GDP. This downward trend is a positive signal for Greece's economic stability, which now appears more resilient to international market turbulence.
This improvement in indicators is considered critical for the further development of the Greek economy. The continued reduction of debt allows the country to better manage its obligations and strengthen its position in the European economic environment.
