Greece's improvement in the global economic freedom index
Greece has made slight progress in the 2026 "Economic Freedom of the World" index rankings. According to the recent data, our country climbed to 61st place among 165 countries, whereas it was in 63rd place the previous year.
Despite this positive change, Greece remains in the lower ranks among European Union member states. This index evaluates various areas, such as the legal system, freedom of international trade, and market regulation, which directly affect economic activity.
This rise reflects the efforts being made to improve the business environment in the country. However, analysts point out that further reforms are required for Greece to approach the average of the other European economies.
The country's trajectory in this specific index is closely monitored by investors and international organizations. The gradual improvement of Greece's position is an important step, although the country still has a long way to go to strengthen its economic freedom on an international level.
