“Prolamvano”: The new national free preventive screening program in Greece
For the first time, Greece has established an organized national prevention system for the health of its citizens. The program, named “Prolamvano” (I Prevent), aims at the early diagnosis of serious diseases and the protection of public health through prevention.
According to the Alternate Minister of Health, Eirini Agapidaki, this program represents a significant change for the Greek health system. For the first time, all citizens have access to free preventive screenings, regardless of whether they are insured or uninsured.
Citizens will now be able to undergo examinations related to maintaining their good health without any financial burden. The goal is to encourage preventive screening so that potential health problems can be identified at an early stage, when treatment is most effective.
The implementation of “Prolamvano” is expected to reduce inequalities in access to health services. In this way, the state seeks to strengthen prevention over treatment, investing in a more modern and fair model of care for all residents of the country.
