Today's News: Thessaloniki Port Connectivity Strengthened

In today's update, we examine the strengthening of international partnerships between the Port of Thessaloniki and Moldova and Romania. We also analyze the European Union's stance on future negotiations regarding Ukraine and the financial support for neighboring Bulgaria. These developments affect trade movement in the region and the European political scene.

The Thessaloniki Port Authority (ThPA) hosted a delegation from the Republic of Moldova and Romania with the aim of strengthening regional cooperation. The meeting focused on improving connectivity—namely, the ease of transporting goods between the countries—highlighting the Port of Thessaloniki as a central hub for the Balkans and Eastern Europe.

At the European level, European Council President António Costa and French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized that the European Union must participate directly in future peace talks to end the war in Ukraine. Mr. Costa underlined that the EU should not rely on third parties to communicate with Moscow but should convey its own positions directly, while Mr. Macron noted that the presence of Europeans at the negotiating table is essential to safeguard the continent's interests.

In neighboring Bulgaria, the country is expected to receive nearly 1 billion euros from the EU Recovery Plan by the end of July. The Recovery Plan is a European financial support program for the reform and strengthening of member states' economies. The European Commission evaluated the country positively, judging that it fulfilled 23 of the 26 required targets.
