Greece among EU countries with the lowest obesity rates
According to recent data for 2025, Greece records one of the lowest obesity rates among European Union member states. The data shows that 12.8% of adults in our country are classified as obese, a performance that places Greece in a favorable position compared to the European average.
Obesity is a major public health issue globally, as it is linked to various health problems, such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Maintaining low rates is considered a positive indicator for the overall health of the population and the quality of life of citizens.
Experts point out that the Mediterranean diet, which is rich in fruits, vegetables, legumes, and olive oil, plays a decisive role in maintaining a healthy weight. This tradition, combined with the lifestyle in Greece, seems to protect a significant portion of the population from weight gain.
Despite these encouraging results, health authorities continue to emphasize the importance of prevention. Systematic physical exercise and awareness of proper dietary habits remain the key pillars for maintaining good health for all citizens in the long term.
