Significant reduction in migratory flows to Greece
There has been a significant drop in the numbers of refugees and irregular migrants arriving in Greece in recent years. According to official data, our country has managed to drastically reduce arrivals, marking a notable change compared to the past.
As announced by the government spokesperson, total migrant arrivals decreased from approximately 890,000 in 2015 to 48,000 in 2025. This represents a reduction of 94%, which shows that the situation at the Greek borders has changed significantly within a decade.
Particular improvement is observed on the Aegean islands, which had faced the greatest pressure in the past. A characteristic example is Lesvos, where out of the total 19,000 migrants who were on the island, only 277 people remain today.
These figures reflect the effort that has been made to manage the migration issue. The Greek government continues to monitor the situation, focusing on the decongestion of the islands and the control of flows at the country's borders.
