Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the remote islands of the Aegean
The Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, paid a visit to the remote islands of Ro and Strongyli in the southeastern Aegean. The purpose of the visit was to boost the morale of the soldiers serving at the outposts in the region and to reaffirm the presence of the Greek state at the country's borders.
During his stay on Ro, Mr. Mitsotakis laid a wreath at the monument of the "Lady of Ro," Despina Achladioti, who for decades raised the Greek flag on the island. This gesture serves as a tribute to the historical contribution of the woman who became a symbol of patriotism for the Greeks.
The Prime Minister spoke with the officers and soldiers staffing the outposts, was briefed on their living conditions, and thanked them for the efforts they make every day. He emphasized that guarding the borders is a mission of the utmost importance for Greece's national security and sovereignty.
This visit sends a clear message regarding the priority the government places on protecting the country's remote areas. The residents and military personnel on the remote islands serve as the "guardians" of the Greek borders, ensuring peace and security in the Aegean region.
