Concern over the surge of West Nile virus in Greece
Health authorities in Greece are on alert as a significant increase in West Nile virus cases is being recorded. According to the latest data, 27 new cases were confirmed last week in various regions of the country.
Unfortunately, the situation remains serious, as five deaths of patients who had been infected with the virus were also reported. Experts are closely monitoring the progression of the disease, which is transmitted primarily through mosquitoes, and emphasize that the virus's activity remains intense.
Certain regions of the country are currently considered "red zones," as they have the highest number of cases. Authorities are appealing to citizens to take necessary protective measures, such as using insect repellent and avoiding standing water near their homes.
Scientists recommend particular caution, especially for vulnerable population groups and the elderly. At the same time, spraying to combat mosquitoes continues in high-risk areas in an effort to limit the spread of the virus.
The situation remains under constant evaluation by the National Public Health Organization. Citizens are urged to stay informed regularly through official sources regarding protection guidelines and to contact their doctor immediately if they develop suspicious symptoms.
