Battle against the flames underway in Skyros
A large fire broke out yesterday afternoon in Skyros, causing concern among local authorities and the island's residents. The fire started in a forested area in the Atsitsa region at approximately 4 p.m.
Extinguishing efforts are particularly difficult, as very strong winds are blowing in the area. The weather conditions are hindering the work of the firefighting forces, who are making every possible effort to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to residential areas.
Strong ground forces of the Fire Service have rushed to the scene, and efforts are expected to be bolstered by the assistance of aerial assets, provided that conditions allow. The situation remains critical and the authorities are on full alert.
Residents and visitors to the island are urged to strictly follow the instructions of the authorities for their safety. Civil Protection is closely monitoring the development of the fire front, with the hope that the intensity of the winds will subside in the coming hours, allowing for the fire to be brought under full control.
