New bill for the protection of journalists in Parliament
The Greek Parliament is preparing to discuss an important bill in the coming period. This text concerns the implementation of a European directive, which aims to protect journalists and media outlets from so-called strategic lawsuits, known as SLAPPs.
These lawsuits are often used to intimidate those who express criticism or reveal information of public interest. With this new bill, Greece is aligning itself with European practices, strengthening press freedom and the safety of media professionals in the country.
At the same time, the meeting between the President of the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA), Ms. Agatsa, and the Regional Governor of Attica, Nikos Hardalias, was in the spotlight. The two sides discussed cooperation issues regarding the accurate information of citizens about the actions of the Region.
In the political scene, discussions remain intense. Mr. Tsoukalas recently commented on the parties' strategy, pointing out that the opposition seems to be focusing its criticism more towards PASOK than towards the government, a fact that sparks debate about the balances within the political system.
These developments indicate a period of intense activity, both at a legislative and a political level. Citizens are awaiting the next moves of Parliament, as the implementation of the European directive is considered a critical step for democracy and information in Greece.
